Perioral Lines Treatment in Otterbourne & Bishops Waltham
Perioral lines (also known as smoker’s lines or barcode lines) are the fine vertical lines that form around the mouth. As we age, several factors contribute to the development of these lines. Firstly, the skin loses collagen and elastin, which provide structural support, causing the skin to become more wrinkled. Additionally, as the lips deflate with age, the lines become more prominent since the lips are no longer stretched out as much.
Furthermore, the vermillion border (the border of the lip) weakens over time, and repeated pursing of the lips contributes to the formation of these lines.

These can be addressed beautifully with a fine filler which I like to call a ‘superficial line eraser’ as it does exactly that.
In this area any extra volume can make the mouth look distorted but with the right technique and the right product, the lines can be treated without causing any projection of the top lip.
Sometimes I combine this treatment with lip filler or reinstating the vermillion border but sometimes the lines can just be treated by themselves.
Aftercare
After treatment, I advise my patients not to do anything that will make them hot or flushed (red in the face) otherwise there is a risk of the Botox spreading to a muscle we are not intending to treat. Examples of this would be exercise, saunas, sunbeds (don’t use sunbeds ever anyway!), lots of alcohol or facials. After 24 hours you can do any of the above as the Botox won’t move after this.
