Dermal Fillers Treatment Bishops Waltham

At our clinic, we offer expertly administered dermal fillers treatments to rejuvenate your appearance and restore lost facial volume. Our clinic is conveniently located across Bishops Waltham, Otterbourne, Stockbridge, and Alresford, providing easy access for clients in these areas.

Dermal fillers are made up of strands of hyaluronic acid (which we have naturally occurring in our skin) crosslinked into a gel which holds its shape and fills volume. As we age, we lose volume in our face due to fat pads shrinking and bone resorbing. This loss of volume can leave people looking tired or drawn even when they don’t feel it. Dermal fillers are a wonderful way of replacing that lost volume and rejuvenating the face whilst still retaining a completely natural look. As long as the natural anatomy is understood and respected and volume is only put back where ageing has taken it away, you can achieve results where people cannot put their finger on why you look better, but you just look well rested and refreshed. It is completely understandable to be worried about fillers as so many people walk around with terrible fillers that are easy to spot. However, many people walk around with beautifully done fillers and you would never realise because that’s how fillers should be – undetectable!

Does Getting Fillers Hurt

The hyaluronic acid gel is mixed with local anaesthetic which makes the procedure more comfortable. I also use a very strong topical numbing cream for more sensitive areas although this isn’t always necessary. Lastly, for lip fillers or to treat smokers lines I am able to give a dental block which means after the local anaesthetic injections are given, you don’t feel a thing!

Which Filler Do You Use?

I only use premium products in my clinic which have a strong safety record and excellent clinical backing. The filler brand I use most commonly is called Teoxane Teosyal who have a range of products which cover every indication in the face. I have used this brand since 2018 and have been delighted with the results.

How Long Do Fillers Last?

This can vary from person to person and it also depends on which product is used in which part of the face. As a general rule anything that is mobile eg round the mouth needs a softer filler to look natural and the continual movement means it is broken down faster than other areas. For example lip filler or smokers lines last about 9-12 months. However, something like cheek filler or temple filler requires a more viscous product and the area is more static and therefore it lasts in the region of 18-24 months.

Are Fillers Safe?

Everything in life has a risk attached to it and fillers are no different. With the wrong product in the wrong area with the wrong practitioner, things can go badly wrong. However, with an experienced medic your risk is much less. It is incredibly rare to have an issue but if you do, you want to be under the care of someone who can diagnose the problem and sort it out. The most serious thing that can happen is filler is accidentally injected into a blood vessel and this can cause necrosis (death of tissue) or in some very rare cases, blindness. In experienced hands, this can be diagnosed quickly and the reversal enzyme, hyaluronidase, can be injected which breaks down the filler from a gel to a liquid and blood flow can be restored. Other complications such as infection can happen which can be treated with antibiotics, but this should be extremely rare as if a sterile technique is used then in general this can be avoided.

Please bear in mind that these are medical procedures and when choosing a practitioner, make sure you do your research and ensure they are fully trained, insured and regulated.

What Areas Can Dermal Fillers Treat?

There are many areas of the face that can be treated with fillers – temples, cheeks, nasolabial folds, marionette lines, the chin and jawline etc. However, in my opinion it shouldn’t be the patient booking in directly for a filler treatment; if you come in for a consultation I want you to explain what you don’t like and whether you feel you look angry, sad, tired etc and it’s my job to address that. So you may end up with an area being treated that you didn’t think was an issue but actually it was contributing to your overall tired look for example. Let me do the hard work and recommend what I think you would benefit from! That’s why it’s always best to book in for a consultation to start with and then we can go from there.

What Are The Side Effect Of Filler?

Depending on how many injections you have, you may be fine to be out and about immediately after or you may want to lay low for a couple of days. In general, lips and the area around the mouth swell a lot so this can take a few days to go back to normal. However, with something like cheek filler, the swelling is easily absorbed by the cheeks so it’s much less obvious you’ve had anything done. The caveat to all of the above is if you bruise, and you may bruise, then all bets are off. Some bruises are small and go within a few days, others are a deep purple and last a couple of weeks. Unfortunately this is an occupational hazard when you’re dealing with needles and as much as I will avoid any blood vessels I can see, there are vessels beneath the skin that I cannot see. My advice is never to have a filler treatment within two weeks of any big event.

What Are They?
Dermal fillers are made up of hyaluronic acid, cross linked to form a colourless gel. The idea is it is injected into areas of volume loss, and it holds it shape and supports the tissues. I use a premium brand called Teoxane Teosyal range and also some products from the Juvederm range.
What Are The Benefits?
When placed strategically, with a deep understanding of anatomy and the aging process, dermal fillers can rejuvenate and look completely natural. I primarily only use fillers in an anti-aging sense, so I'm only adding volume where aging has taken it away. By doing this, no one ever looks "done" or "fake" as the natural anatomy is respected.
Are They Painful?
As a general rule I would say that fillers vary from 4-6/10 on the pain scale with areas like lips being at the higher end and cheeks at the lower end. The vast majority people tolerate fillers absolutely fine and the fillers I use also contain local anaesthetic. I use local anaesthetic (numbing cream) where needed and at the dental practice there is also a free option to have a dental block (numbing injection) for lip treatments so the area is completely numb and you don't feel a thing!
How Long Is Each Session?
On average a filler appointment is 45 minutes but it may be up to 1.5 hours depending on how many mls are being injected. A lot of that time is spent talking, taking photos, cleaning the skin thoroughly and marking the area so the actual injections are probably only 10-15 minutes,
